Evaluation and Reflection

20/02/2023

I focused this week on doing my proposal and timetable since those are very important things for me to start on my project. This took me a while to finish with as I wanted to make sure everything was right and I wasn’t forgetting nothing as I wanted to finish everything on time with this project. Also, I started on creating my Pecha Kucha where I had to present for the class my idea for this project. It was a bit challenging to make this presentation as I can only use images.

27/03/2023

I continued creating my presentation to present it next week. As I was only working on my presentation, I started to find names for my branding. After a quick research on names, I decided on 'Tussie Mussie' as it is a name of a game I used to play and as the name mean a small bunch of flowers and the company I am creating is about flowers, I founded satisfying the same to be used for my branding.

This week was a bit slow as I got to watch everyones presentation and present my own. However, it was a great way to know what my class mates were doing for their FMP.

Pecha Kucha reflection:

After my presentation I got feedbacks from my class mates where I could have an idea on what I should improve in my next presentation and know what I did right while presenting. One thing that I should improve is to speak louder. This is due to me being a bit shy while presented and as I wasn’t so confident on presenting in front of everyone. For the good feedback I have described well my over all of my topic. And lots of people found it interesting my topic which I was glad that they thought of.
However, on my opinion, I should have been more prepare while presenting as I noticed that I have forgot to say some stuff about the project and my topic. From all these feedbacks I know what I can do to improve on my next presentation and how I can be more prepare.

13/03/2023

After presenting my Pecha Kucha, I started on sketching ideas for my logo and for poster. All that I created only using pen and paper as I wanted to make quick sketches just to have some quick ideas. Doing this helped me have a better idea on what I wanted to see on my final product. Also, I looked on Pinterest for inspiration, and for examples of designs and images that I can take of my drinks. Further this week, I started working on the digital sketches as I have more 2 weeks to finish with my logo and name brand. It was easy to create the logo in illustrator as I already have a lot of practice using the software.

20/03/2023

I have experiment with colour to add on the logo which I focused using the colours of the flowers my product would displayed. This gave me a great idea on adding a specific colour for every flower flavour in the logo as it would look more aesthetic pleasing. This week I also stated working on my 3D bottle. As I have never done it nothing 3D using Adobe Illustrator, it was a bit challenging but I found a great video on Youtube where it helped me develop the skills to create a smooth 3D bottle. In addition, I  continued creating the label for the drink as next week I am going to start taking pictures of the drinks. I only had one problem finishing with the label as I wasn't sure which of the three logos I wanted as my final one. To find a solution to this problem, I asked my family and friends which of the three logos they thought would be most interesting for a beverage logo. Doing this quick survey face to face made my process so much easier as I used the design that was voted more.

27/03/2023

I have book the studio for next week as it is on my timetable to start working on my posters. Booking the studio a week a head gave me a week to find inspirations for me to use while taking pictures. And since I have already finish creating my logo and label to add on the drink, it was easier to get inspirations as I have the drinks and the branding ready.

03/04/2023

I did my just photo shots of my product which was fun and pleasing to do as I got to experiment with lots of different ideas. I got more skills on how to use the camera though out the practice. From this week I learned that angle and colour are one of the fundamental things to make a photo have the aspect that I wish for my product. Also, since I am up to date on my timetable, I decided to try and take more pictures next week as I think I can improve in some aspect from my first pictures. This will give me more experimentation and more choices of images which I will be able to choose more wisely the best pictures to create my final social media posters.

10/04/2023

As planned from the week before I will be taking new pictures of the bottles as I want to improve on some aspects. Now I have focus on taking more natural pictures as my product is a drink perfect for summer. So I decided to take those pictures on my free time as I can go to the park and take lots of different shots of the bottles. After taking the pictures, I noticed some improvement on the style while taking the pictures which now are more simple but has the natural light and the right aesthetic that I wanted from the beginning.

17/04/2023

Since I already my final logo and name done, and all the pictures taken, I now can start to edit everything for the final posters. This week I have focused only on editing the pictures I choose to use. I had some difficulty editing but I got the hang of it since I watched some Youtube videos for help and whatever I wasn’t able to do I just asked for help which was very helpful.

24/04/2023

This week I focused on editing all the pictures I choose to add on the social media as well as finishing to create the social media platform. So next week my plan is to focus on creating the 2 posters and the slogan for the brand.

01/05/2023

I finished with the editing of all my pictures that I was going to add on the social media platform, and the social media in adobe XD where it was easy to create since I was familiar with the software. Also, as I was almost in the end of creating everything, I started focusing on creating the posters. I decided to stop creating the 3D bottle as I noticed how it wasn't going to use in my final products so I choose to change and create 2 posters. To create the posters, I am going to use the pictures from the park that I took weeks ago. Consequently, I wrote it down some slogan ideas to add on the poster to make it more personal to the audience.

08/05/2023

This week my goal was to continue working on the 2 posters as I only have more two week to finish everything. Also, on my own free time I checked everything on my blog and made the final touches on the other research's and experimentation that I haven’t finished writing so next week I could ask for my teacher to give me feedback on everything to know what I had to improve to get my best grade.

15/05/2023

From last weeks plan, this week I have asked for my teachers to check my blog and see if I needed to improve on anything. After getting the feedback, I went and improved on the areas that I needed to on my blog . Furthermore, I made the final touches on my posters this week as next week my plan is to only work on writing the evaluation as well as making sure I have everything right for when the teachers start to asses my work.

22/05/2023

As from last week plan, I got everything done as planned, and got feedback from my class mates and I focused on writing my evaluation as I only have this week to finish everything.

Before starting to write my evaluation I made a survey to get feedback from my female consumers. This feedback helped me write my evaluation as I could write in more detail as i got to know how much attention it brought to my consumers. I also received feedback from teachers about my posters, and overall the feedback was positive since they liked the way I added the logo and the different styles I used. However, they suggested that I should use more of my original photos in the posters. Although, I didn't make the suggested changes to my posters as I had already got a positive feedback from my female consumers but to make sure I was making the right decision I decided to make a quick survey (where you can find the results on the research page) asking which picture they would prefer to be used on the posters. And all of them had chosen the poster that I created without using the original background as they thought it was very eye catching and that the posters stand out very well to be advertised. Besides, my target audience mainly being aimed at female consumers tend to find appealing posters that show health and wellness as it is something that they often prioritise. Also, a poster that is clear and goes has a short message are well seen in the female eyes since women value being straightforward with them.

Evaluation:

My initial concept for this project was to create a brand for a new flower flavoured water, where I have chosen as my media option to create social media posters and two regular posters. I have chosen this concept as the market of flavoured water is growing every year and it wasn’t well explored yet, giving me the advantage to be the first to create a new brand and since it is going to be my own project therefore it won’t be copyright as I have produced original products. Also, I had more freedom on working with different varieties of advertising and creating a water flavoured brand with my own personal ideas from scratch. Additionally, the topic of my choice was chosen as it is a passion that I have to work with graphic design. This is due to being able to be creative and express myself on every work piece, and it is a field where I can personally grow all the time by innovating my designs with trends and constantly challenging myself.

I have picked this particular topic since I was trying to differentiate my final products from previous projects I had done over the year because I wanted to create something unique, using the skills I’ve learned so far and to show that I am capable of creating something totally different from my usual as well as to learn new skills in a short amount of time. Besides, I wanted to bring innovation to my designs as it gives a big impact on the brand image and it can create a more enjoyable experience for my customers.

Through my concept, the message I was trying to give was a natural and organic aspect to emphasise the use of real flowers on the drinks, a feeling of satisfaction and sophistication for the audience as flowers are a symbol of beauty and luxury making the experience of the drink be a boost of energy for the audience. And giving a message of festivity and joy to all as flowers are also associated with special occasions.

On the research I’ve done, it shows that the target consumers for the flavoured water market can be different based on the segmentation of the brand and the market strategy used, such as the consumers that may be looking for healthier beverage options, younger generation which are more open to trying new and unique flavours and even women which flowers are more associated with femininity. However, I have decided to focus on the female consumers with a mid to high income levels. This is because women have a significant power over the home purchases, the flower flavours have a more romantic and distinct taste experience which attract female consumers more and as research indicates that women have a higher level of brand loyalty. Based on that, I engaged my female consumers by storytelling. Where I created the pictures based on a summer story where it communicates the value of freshness, health and natural ingredients of the product. Also, I created visual identity by designing an eye catching logo and giving an aesthetic look to my posters. I have used colour and typography wisely to all my products on this project where it aligns with the desires of my female audience. In addition, I used all the  space I had wisely in my posters to create a clean layout. This allowed my element to breathe and stand out.  I also added my brand and logo to all posters to ensure to outstand my brand. And that will help build recognition and brand recall.

My secondary research was based on the topic of flower flavoured market where it gave information on the market and availability of creating my product as well as the best flower flavours to pick for my beverage brand. Moreover, I’ve also analysed some designs that I got inspired by, where I could see how the colour was used to advertise the product in a certain season. How the slogan was used, and how the typography is consistent in every design. This research helped me have a base of knowledge of my chosen topic which it was very important to explore since I could understand the customers' need for the beverage, see the opportunities of the market for a new drink and the best resources for me to use to create the best outcome of this project. Also, this gave me awareness as the global flavoured water market had a positive growth during the Covid-19 pandemic for the reason of consumers having more concerns about their health behaviour and lifestyle. And since people spend more time at home, they started to get an interest for products such as herbal teas and natural remedies to boost their immune systems and improve their well being, and many of those products have common floral flavours such as elderflower, lavender and chamomile.

As for my primary research, I’ve done some surveys to find out my classmates' opinion on my progress as well as to know their thoughts on the drink topic. I also created a fictional persona that may buy the product so I could have some insight of the consumer's needs. However, the fiction persona was based on creating a juice/smoothie brand where after getting feedback, I decided to create something from scratch for my final project, that’s why I choose to create a flower flavoured water brand.

For my practical skills, I experimented by creating sketches of brand logos on paper and using Illustrator which helped me decide the best design logo for my brand. I’ve also experimented creating a 3D bottle, although I stopped creating it as I didn’t see any purpose for my final project. Furthermore, I practised a lot with photography as it was something I wanted to experiment more and it ended up being a great experience as well as being significantly important for my final posters.

I planned all my project as I created a timetable where every week, it showed the activity I was going to do as well as the resources I will be using that week. And writing a reflection every week helped me by self assessing as to see how I was progressing over the weeks, plus it made sure I would keep following my timetable. Furthermore, creating mood boards helped me by giving me visual inspiration as I used various images and colour to inspire me on my project. Also, creating a timetable assisted me in the development of my final product as it helped me manage my time well, find the resources I needed to create everything, track my progress of my project and to find some potential risks or challenges that may appear during the process.

For this project, most of my work was mainly based on graphic design. The three main softwares I used were photoshop and illustrator where I edited and created my photos, and used XD to create my instagram page. I also used a  canon eso 2000e camera for taking all the pictures of my product since I created my own water flavour therefore had to create a bottle to showcase my flavours , as well as using this opportunity to also  keep on practising  using the camera more so i could develop further skills, since I thought it would look more realistic as the real-life companies tend to take pictures of their product to advertise their product.

While creating my outcome, I encountered some problems over the process such as, being indecisive with which logo I wanted as my final one, so to overcome this problem I made a poll asking my classmates their opinion on which logo looks more suitable to use. Another problem I had encountered while taking the pictures in the studio was that some of the shots weren’t coming out as I wanted. To solve this problem I adjusted the light so it would look more professional and neat, and changed the mode until I got the right shot. I also had a problem with the editing the photos as I wasn't able to give the water drop look effect on the label that I was going to put on the bottle. To solve this problem, I asked for help to solve my technical problem.

Overall my final product was successful as I had lots of time to finish everything as it went according to my timetable. I find that the instagram platform and the photos added there ended up being successful as it gives the exact vibe I wanted from the beginning. Plus the final posters did have a great outcome as the feedback that I received was mainly positive feedback but for the most part that would need improvement was with the design and style of the posters. That’s because I thought it would end up being more pleasant if I didn’t repeat the photos I used on the social media platform.

I also received feedback from teachers about my posters, and overall the feedback was good since they liked the way I added the logo and the different styles I used. However, they suggested that I should use more of my original photos on the posters. Although, I didn't make the suggested changes to my posters as I already had got positive feedback from my female consumers but to make sure I was making the right decision I decided to make a quick survey (where you can find the results on the research page) asking which picture they would prefer to be used on the posters.

After reflecting on what went successful and unsuccessful, I figured that if I had more time on this project, I would focus more on the making of my  posters as I would have been able to experiment more using my skills as well as learning new skills on the go to create a better poster for my final result. I would have done this by going a bit out of my comfort zone by adding different trends and styles as I feel like that this would have been something that would have caught my consumers attention and also given my product more recognition.
